Who’s Money with Katie?

Money with Katie was founded in 2020 as a space for me, Katie Gatti Tassin, to document everything I was learning about personal finance on my journey to financial independence.

As a former public relations major in corporate America with a penchant for swiping my Discover card, my obsession about personal finance hit me hard out of left field — and as I watched my net worth grow in tandem with my financial literacy, I realized just how valuable the information was. Sharing it with others became an obsession.

I left my full-time job at the end of 2021 to devote all of my energy to building this business, and Money with Katie was acquired by Morning Brew in 2022. Today, I run Money with Katie as part of a team of three, and we’re rapidly growing our reach.

Our mission

Money with Katie’s mission is to be the intersection where the economic, cultural, and political meet the tactical, practical, personal finance education everyone needs.

We believe…

  • It isn’t possible (or interesting!) to talk about our financial lives without acknowledging the broader context we exist within.

From record-low housing affordability to the state of remote work, we like to explore the ways the world you live in impacts your money — and how your money can impact that world.

  • When we know better, we tend to do better. Managing money is a skill that everyone has to learn and hone — nobody comes out of the womb with the 401(k) contribution limits memorized.

We believe everyone is capable of making better financial choices to improve their lives and build wealth.

  • Most of our beliefs about money are inherited from our parents, communities, and past experiences.

Growing a new kind of relationship with money requires intimacy with your financial choices and goals — which is why we believe interacting frequently with your financial data is important.

  • The modern world and economy function differently now than they did 50 years ago.

We like to constantly question whether or not the “old rules” still apply — is homeownership still the best way to build wealth? Does loyalty to a company guarantee stability, or lower pay? What’s the true ROI on a college degree? Asking questions makes learning about money more fun — and meaningful.

  • Earn more, spend less, invest the difference. The formula is simple, and there are countless ways to implement it for yourself.

Roughly half of our content at any given time is unpacking different ways to approach this winning equation.

  • From industries that exclusively and relentlessly target female consumers to the family and workplace dynamics that impact a woman’s earning potential, we believe a different playbook and set of truths applies to women as they build wealth.

We address these topics head on — and my upcoming book, Rise of the Rich Girls, takes the conversation even deeper.
